Send a fax to Premier Gordon Campbell and Hon. Stan Hagen, Minister of Agriculture and Lands telling them that the expansion of an already harmful industry cannot be tolerated.

Dear Recipient
I am extremely concerned to hear that the open net-cage salmon farming industry is trying to expand in BC. I implore you to act in the best interest of the public, our shared resources, and our environment and deny these amendments.
The BC government should be taking the lead on instituting emergency fallow plans in areas like the Broughton Archipelago and the Discovery Islands – the very areas that are poised for more open net-cages. I will depend on you to take the stand the majority of British Columbians are asking for – over 80% want to see investment in closed containment salmon farming. Invest in solutions and reject applications that would expand an industry that pollutes our water, threatens our wild salmon, and puts the future of our coastal communities at risk.
The BC government has allowed the net-cage salmon farming industry to grow too large already. I will be paying attention to how you respond to these amendments. Please take this opportunity to make BC a leader in sustainable aquaculture by investing in closed containment, taking immediate action to reduce the harm of existing operations and officially ending approvals for new or expanded open net-cages.
