Farmed and Dangerous Home

Government Relations

The government relations Team within CAAR is the primary point of contact between governments, conservation groups, fishermen, scientists, First Nations and the public concerned about the current state of the salmon farming industry in British Columbia. The team communicates public opposition to net cage salmon farming to provincial and federal representatives. Members of the team educate the public and the media about government inadequacies in regulating and monitoring the salmon farming industry. In 2004, the team released a government report card on the regulation of salmon farming in BC available at http://www.farmedanddangerous.org/ /BCFishFarmReportCard.pdf The team also works at building government support for research initiatives that focus on the environmental impacts of net cage salmon farming.

In the coming year, the team will be building government and public support for a transition to closed containment technology by demonstrating that it is economically viable and environmentally necessary.
